Walt Disney World

A 10-day Disney World itinerary that actually works

Ten days is enough to see everything without the meltdown on day six. Here is how we pace it – including the two rest days most plans leave out.

The principle

Four park days, two rest days, and no repeats back to back.

Most ten-day plans fail the same way: six or seven park days in a row, an eleven-hour day two, and by day six somebody is crying at a bus stop. Usually an adult.

The version below never runs two heavy park days consecutively, puts a full rest day in the middle, and gives Magic Kingdom two visits so nothing has to be crammed into one.

Day by day

The ten-day plan

Day 1

Arrive and settle

Fly in, check in, and do nothing demanding. Resort pool, an early dinner, and to bed. Do not open a park on arrival day.

Day 2

Magic Kingdom

Rope drop, the classics before lunch, back to the resort for the afternoon, then return for the evening and fireworks.

Day 3

EPCOT

World Showcase in the afternoon and evening when it comes alive. A slower day by design, straight after a heavy one.

Day 4

Rest day

No park. Pool, a springs-style shopping afternoon, a long dinner. This is the day people try to cut – and the one that saves the trip.

Day 5

Hollywood Studios

The hardest park to do well. Earliest start of the week, and out by mid-afternoon.

Day 6

Animal Kingdom

Early start for the animals, done by early afternoon. Evening free.

Day 7

Rest or water park

Second full breather. A water park if the group still has energy, otherwise the resort.

Day 8

Magic Kingdom, second visit

Everything you missed, at half the pace, with none of the first-visit pressure.

Day 9

Favourites revisited

Return to whichever park the group loved most. No plan beyond a couple of dining reservations.

Day 10

Fly home

A slow morning, late checkout where possible, and an afternoon flight.
